About this Site:

This is not a gardening website, at least not in the ways you might expect.  Here, we focus on creating, transforming and maintaining residential landscapes. Experienced gardeners are always welcome but this site is primarily intended to benefit everyday homeowners who value an attractive landscape but may not be passionate gardeners.  If you have a picture in your your mind (or pinned on Pinterest) of how you’d like your yard to look but you have no idea how to translate those ideas into reality, this site is for you.  Here we’re all about good design, curated, simplified and made easier to obtain.

On this site you’ll find everything from budget-friendly projects you can complete in a weekend to small area makeovers to whole landscape transformation.  Finding the “right” plant is only part of the equation, here we’ll show how to combine them to create the look you see in your mind’s eye.  In the downloads section, you’ll find our unique plant combination plans that you can take to your local nursery where their certified nurserymen can fill-in-the-blanks with the best local options to meet the perimeters in our pre-planned combinations.

Together, we’ll make lush landscapes that simply require less–  Less time, less maintenance, less water, while providing more. More function, more privacy and more time to enjoy the fruits of your labors.

About Cynthia

In my day job, I work for a local botanical garden where I use every form of communication to help homeowners create regionally-appropriate landscapes they love.  As I’ve worked to teach thousands of you, you’ve challenged my ideas and perceptions in a way that few designers experience.  As a result, I’ve been inspired to rethink the standard design approach and find ways to make do-it-yourself design easier. This site is intended to teach design concepts in more accessible way– for REAL people.

Cynthia earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from Utah State University with a minor in Horticulture.  She’s worked at every scale in design from large, regional public projects in the Salt Lake City, Utah and Portland, Oregon metro areas to areas as small as single planting beds.

Cynthia has always been the type to drag others into her own form of crazy and, as a result, founded the Utah Home & Garden Club to help other local DIY enthusiasts enjoy training in all types of home & garden projects from local experts.  Cynthia organizes and executes random projects with a night owl band of guerrilla gardeners to create surprise makeovers of small public spaces– but Shh!

Whether through the website, public speaking, news articles or guest appearances on local lifestyles programs, Cynthia enjoys sharing her love of beautiful landscapes– and the secrets to creating them.
